TADOC, Ankara
G-Wag Inc., a company formed by retired technological crime detectives, provided cybercrime investigation training in Ankara, Turkey at the TADOC Training Academy. The two-week course dealt with investigating internet crime and was a joint venture between the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and the Turkish National Police at TADOC (the Turkish International Academy against Drugs and Organized Crime).
TADOC was founded in September 2000 and provides training to law enforcement in Turkey and to countries of the Economic Cooperation Organization, Black Sea Economic Cooperation, and other countries that have mutual cooperation agreements with Turkey. Training programs include combating illegal production, abuse, smuggling of drugs, and organized crime.
VisualRoute was the tool of choice used in the tracking and tracing exercises performed by the class.
Canadian Police College
The Canadian Police College in Ottawa is the major training facility for law enforcement in Canada and home of the famed Royal Canadian Mounted Police Musical Ride. Investigators from across North America and around the world have attended its cybercrime course over the past seven years.
G-Wag Inc. has provided training at the Police College since 1996. The second week of the course covers IRC (Internet Relay Chat), Instant Messaging, email header interpretation, websites, and the Usenet. The ease of use and integrated design of VisualRoute is the major reason for its integration into the training course.
Why VisualRoute
For investigators tracing illegal content, the geographical IP location, the whois data, and the visible network path between source and destination are essential. VisualRoute presents all three on one screen, in a format that translates equally well to a courtroom as it does to a training classroom.
