License key troubleshooting

The three most common activation issues and how to resolve them.

Invalid syntax

Usually a copy and paste problem. First confirm the license key matches the version you installed. During installation the version number is shown; if VisualRoute is already running, go to Help → About. The version in your confirmation email appears directly above the license key itself.

To enter the key correctly, select the entire key by clicking and dragging the mouse across it, then paste into the VisualRoute license dialog using Ctrl + V. The dialog has no right-click menu, so the keyboard shortcut is required.

VisualRoute does not have access to the internet

Typically caused by firewall settings on the machine. Every firewall has an allowed or exceptions list. Add VisualRoute.exe and java.exe to the exceptions list and the error should clear.

For full reporting, make sure port 80 (HTTP) and port 43 (whois) are also open in your firewall.

License key activated too many times

When purchasing a license you choose the number of machines it activates on. If that number is exceeded, activation fails with this error. Contact support and we can help you reset or extend your license.
